Case Study · Spring Cleanup & Yard Removal · Edmonton

One Job, Done Properly.Quoted On Site in Five Minutes.

Under 5 min

per cleanup quote, on site

A second, separate build for Zebra Landscaping — not a retelling of the estimating platform. This one covers a single job: spring cleanup and yard removal, the work that arrives all at once and gets quoted worst when everyone is busiest.

The story

Spring Is the Crunch.

Spring cleanup requests pile up faster than anyone can type. Zebra were doing those quotes by hand: mental math on site, calls back to the office to check a rate, and a number that depended on which staff member happened to be standing in the yard.

That produced two problems at once. Quotes varied between staff, so the same job could be priced differently depending on who took it; and margins were unpredictable, because the arithmetic was being done under time pressure without the rate card in front of anyone.

This is deliberately a narrow tool. It does one job rather than trying to be the estimating platform again — which is why it fits in a pocket and why any staff member can use it from day one.

What we built

Trace, Adjust, Send.

Three steps on a phone, standing in the customer's yard, with the office rate card built in.

01

Trace the yard

Staff enter the client address and trace the property on a live satellite map. Square footage is calculated automatically, so the measurement comes off the site rather than a tape measure or a guess.

02

Adjust on sliders

Property conditions, add-ons and discounts are captured on sliders, and the quote total updates live as they move. The pricing consequence of a condition is visible while the staff member is still deciding, not afterwards.

03

One tap to client-ready

When the quote is right, one tap produces a formatted, client-ready version, and the Jobber integration carries it into the CRM the business already runs on.

Our approach

A Narrow Tool BeatsA General One Nobody Opens.

The temptation with a second build is to generalise it — make it handle every service line, and end up with something slower than the problem it replaced. This tool covers spring cleanup and yard removal and nothing else. That constraint is why it is usable in under five minutes by someone standing on a lawn with gloves on.

Real deployment

Built for the Worst Week of the Year.

Spring is precisely when a tool gets judged: high volume, time pressure, and whoever is available doing the quoting rather than whoever is most experienced. The tool is password-protected and internal, built for field staff on a phone, and shaped around that week rather than a calm demo.

The result Zebra report is consistency — pricing that holds across every job and every staff member, without the mid-estimate call back to the office.

Under the hood

Architecture & The Hard Parts.

The real engineering — what the system is built on, and the non-obvious problems that had to be solved to make it hold up in production.

01

Measuring a Lawn on a Phone

Tracing a property on satellite imagery with a finger, outdoors, in sunlight, is a different problem from drawing on a desktop with a mouse. The measurement has to tolerate imprecise touch input and still produce a square footage the business is willing to price against — which means the interaction has to be forgiving without quietly making the number wrong.

02

A Total That Updates While You Think

The sliders exist so that a staff member can see the pricing consequence of a condition before committing to it. That only works if the total recalculates instantly against the full rate card — the moment there is a visible lag, people stop exploring and go back to guessing, and the tool has failed at the one thing it was built for.

03

The Rate Card Is the Product

Everything that makes this tool valuable is the company's real pricing: materials, condition multipliers, add-ons and discount rules. Encoding those faithfully — and keeping them changeable by the business rather than by us — is most of the actual work, and the reason the output is margin-protected rather than merely fast.

04

Landing in Jobber, Not Beside It

A quote that lives only in the tool would just be a fourth place to look. The Jobber integration means the quote arrives in the CRM the office already works from, so the field tool adds a step to nobody's day and the office does not have to re-key anything.

What it runs on

Measurement

  • Live satellite map
  • Traced area
  • Auto square footage

Pricing

  • Company rate card
  • Condition sliders
  • Live total

Output

  • One-tap client-ready quote
  • Formatted for sending

Integration

  • Jobber CRM sync
Where the scope stops

What It Deliberately Does Not Do.

  • It quotes spring cleanup and yard removal only — it is not the full estimating platform, which is a separate build.
  • It is internal and password-protected. Customers never use it directly.
  • It does not send to the customer on its own; a staff member produces the client-ready quote and sends it.
  • It does not replace Jobber — it feeds it.

Out of respect for our client

We will talk architecture, but the specifics stay private: how this system prices, the rates it runs on, and how it is tuned to this business belong to our client, and we keep them that way. When we build for you, your systems and your numbers get the same discretion.

30 minutes. We map how that job gets priced today, who can do it, and what it would take to make the answer the same regardless of who is standing there.
